Attempt to debit an account but found no record of a prior credit
The account you are trying to send SOL from does not exist on-chain. On Solana, an account must receive at least one deposit (credit) before it can send (debit) any funds.
Common causes
- New wallet never funded. You generated a keypair but never sent SOL to it. The account does not exist on-chain until it receives its first deposit.
- Wrong network. The account exists on devnet but you are sending on mainnet, or vice versa.
- Wrong public key. A typo or derivation error resulted in a different address than intended.
How to fix
- Verify the account exists with getAccountInfo or getBalance.
- If the account does not exist, fund it first by transferring SOL to it from another account.
- On devnet/testnet, use requestAirdrop to get free SOL.
FAQ
Does this mean I lost funds? No. The account simply never had funds. No transaction was executed.
How much SOL do I need to send to create the account? At least the rent-exempt minimum (~0.00089 SOL for a zero-data account). Any transfer above this amount creates the account automatically.
Can I check if an account exists without sending a transaction?
Yes. Use getAccountInfo — it returns null for nonexistent accounts.
