What Is Transaction Landing in Solana?
Transaction landing rate is the percentage of submitted transactions that are successfully included and executed in a block. A high landing rate means most transactions reach the leader’s TPU and are processed. A low landing rate means many transactions are dropped before or during processing.
Why transactions fail to land
- TPU queue full — the leader drops transactions when the ingestion queue is saturated
- Low priority fee — transactions with low or zero priority fees are deprioritized
- Unstaked sender — transactions from unstaked nodes receive less SWQoS capacity
- Blockhash expired — the transaction was not processed before its blockhash expired
- Simulation failure — the transaction fails preflight simulation and is not forwarded
Improving landing rate
- Add a competitive priority fee based on recent fee data
- Use an RPC provider with staked connections for better SWQoS priority
- Set
skipPreflight: truefor faster submission (skip duplicate simulation) - Retry with fresh blockhash when transactions expire
- Use Jito bundles with tips for guaranteed inclusion
Measuring landing rate
There is no single RPC method for landing rate. Monitor by tracking how many of your submitted transactions appear in getSignatureStatuses within the blockhash validity window.
FAQ
What is a good landing rate? For well-configured applications during normal conditions, 80–95% is typical. During extreme congestion, rates can drop significantly.
Does a failed transaction count as “landed”? A transaction that is included in a block but fails execution (program error, insufficient funds) has landed but failed. Landing rate measures inclusion, not success.
