Meteora DLMM — Program ID & Overview

LBUZKhRxPF3XUpBCjp4YzTKgLccjZhTSDM9YuVaPwxo

Meteora DLMM (Dynamic Liquidity Market Maker) uses a bin-based system instead of ticks. Each bin holds liquidity at a single discrete price, and swaps move between bins. This design offers zero-slippage swaps within a single bin and flexible liquidity distribution strategies.

How bins work

Unlike tick-based CLMMs where price is continuous between ticks, DLMM bins each represent a single price point. Liquidity within a bin trades at exactly that bin’s price with no slippage. Slippage only occurs when a swap crosses bin boundaries.

Bin -2: $99.00 [████ ] 40% filled
Bin -1: $99.50 [████████ ] 80% filled
Bin 0: $100.00 [██████████] ← active bin (current price)
Bin +1: $100.50 [██████ ] 60% filled
Bin +2: $101.00 [███ ] 30% filled

Bin spacing

The bin step determines price granularity. A bin step of 1 basis point means each consecutive bin is 0.01% apart.

Bin step (bps)Price incrementTypical use
10.01%Stable pairs
50.05%Correlated tokens
250.25%Standard pairs

Liquidity strategies

DLMM supports distribution shapes when adding liquidity:

StrategyDescription
Uniform (Flat)Equal liquidity across all bins in range
Normal (Curve)Bell-curve centered on current price
Bid-AskHeavier at the edges, lighter at center
SpotConcentrated around the active bin

Key instructions

FAQ

What is the advantage of bins over ticks? Bins provide zero-slippage trades within a single bin, making price execution more predictable. The discrete nature also simplifies LP position management compared to continuous tick ranges.

How do DLMM fees work? DLMM uses dynamic fees that increase during volatile periods and decrease during stable periods. This protects LPs from adverse selection during high volatility.

What is the active bin? The active bin is the bin containing the current trading price. Swaps consume liquidity from the active bin first, then move to adjacent bins. Only LPs with liquidity in or near the active bin earn trading fees.
