getInflationRate — Solana RPC Method

getInflationRate returns the actual inflation rate values for the current epoch, broken down into total, validator, and foundation components. Unlike getInflationGovernor which returns the schedule parameters, this method returns the computed rate for right now.

Parameters

This method takes no parameters.

Request

curl -X POST https://api.mainnet-beta.solana.com \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "jsonrpc": "2.0",
    "id": 1,
    "method": "getInflationRate",
    "params": []
  }'

TypeScript (@solana/kit)

import { createSolanaRpc } from "@solana/kit";

const rpc = createSolanaRpc("https://api.mainnet-beta.solana.com");
const rate = await rpc.getInflationRate().send();

console.log(`Epoch: ${rate.epoch}`);
console.log(`Total inflation: ${(rate.total * 100).toFixed(2)}%`);
console.log(`Validator share: ${(rate.validator * 100).toFixed(2)}%`);

    "validator": 0.0471,
    "foundation": 0.0025,

FieldTypeDescription
totalf64Total annualized inflation rate as a decimal. 0.0496 = 4.96%.
validatorf64Portion of inflation going to validators and delegators.
foundationf64Portion of inflation going to the Solana Foundation.
epochu64The epoch these rates apply to.

Understanding the breakdown

The total inflation is split between validators and the foundation:

  • validator: distributed as staking rewards to validators and their delegators, proportional to stake.
  • foundation: allocated to the Solana Foundation (this allocation has a limited term).
  • total = validator + foundation.

The actual rate changes every epoch as the taper takes effect. The rate is calculated from the inflation governor parameters and the current epoch number.

Common errors

This method has no parameters and reliably returns a result. Errors are limited to connectivity issues.

Performance

getInflationRate is a lightweight computation based on the inflation schedule and the current epoch. The result changes only at epoch boundaries (approximately every 2 days), so it is safe to cache for the duration of the current epoch.

FAQ

What is the current Solana inflation rate? The inflation rate decreases over time following the taper schedule. Call getInflationRate for the exact current value. As of late 2026, the total annual inflation rate is approximately 5%.

How often does the rate change? The rate is recalculated at each epoch boundary. Since an epoch is approximately 2 days, the rate changes roughly every 2 days. The change between consecutive epochs is very small — about 0.002% per epoch.

What is the difference between getInflationRate and getInflationGovernor? getInflationGovernor returns the schedule parameters (initial rate, terminal rate, taper rate). getInflationRate returns the actual computed rate for the current epoch. The governor tells you the formula; the rate tells you today’s number.

Does staking yield equal the validator inflation rate? Not exactly. Staking yield depends on the percentage of total supply that is staked. If 60% of SOL is staked, the effective yield for stakers is higher than the validator inflation rate because the newly minted SOL is distributed only among stakers.

Will inflation ever reach zero? No. The terminal rate is 1.5% per year, which is the lowest the inflation will go. Solana will always have a small amount of inflation to incentivize validators and stakers.
