Track New Token Launches in Real Time
TL;DR
- - Subscribe to InitializeMint transactions on the Token Program via gRPC
- - Filter by program owner to catch new mint accounts as they are created
- - Handle both SPL Token and Token-2022 programs
- - Process at processed commitment for lowest latency
Detecting new token launches on Solana requires subscribing to mint account creation events. The most reliable method uses Yellowstone gRPC to watch for new accounts owned by the Token Program or Token-2022.
Approach 1: Watch for new mint accounts
Subscribe to account updates where the owner is the Token Program. Filter for accounts with the mint data layout (82 bytes for SPL Token).
{
"accounts": {
"new_mints": {
"account": [],
"owner": [
"TokenkegQfeZyiNwAJbNbGKPFXCWuBvf9Ss623VQ5DA",
"TokenzQdBNbLqP5VEhdkAS6EPFLC1PHnBqCXEpPxuEb"
],
"filters": [
{ "datasize": 82 }
]
}
},
"commitment": 0
}
This streams every account update for Token Program-owned accounts of 82 bytes (the mint layout). This includes updates to existing mints (supply changes), so your code must track which mints are new.
Approach 2: Watch for InitializeMint transactions
Subscribe to transactions involving the Token Program and parse for the InitializeMint instruction:
{
"transactions": {
"token_txs": {
"vote": false,
"failed": false,
"accountInclude": [
"TokenkegQfeZyiNwAJbNbGKPFXCWuBvf9Ss623VQ5DA"
],
"accountExclude": []
}
},
"commitment": 0
}
Then filter client-side for transactions containing the InitializeMint (instruction discriminator 0) or InitializeMint2 (instruction discriminator 20) instruction.
What you receive
For each new mint, extract:
- Mint address — the new token’s public key
- Decimals — token precision (0–9)
- Mint authority — who can mint new tokens
- Freeze authority — who can freeze accounts (if set)
- Slot and signature — for ordering and deduplication
Filtering noise
New tokens are created constantly on Solana. Most are spam or test tokens. Consider filtering by:
- Presence of associated metadata (Metaplex token metadata)
- Initial liquidity pool creation in the same or subsequent transactions
- Mint authority patterns (revoked authority may indicate a fair launch)
FAQ
How fast can I detect a new token? At processed commitment, within ~400ms of the block containing the InitializeMint transaction. This is fast enough for most monitoring use cases.
Should I watch SPL Token or Token-2022 or both? Both. New tokens can use either program. Token-2022 is increasingly common for tokens that need extensions (transfer fees, metadata).
How do I know if a new token has a liquidity pool? Monitor DEX program transactions (Raydium, Orca, Meteora) in a separate subscription. Correlate new mints with pool creation transactions by mint address.
