What Is Tip in Solana?

A tip is a SOL payment sent to a Jito tip account as part of a bundle. Tips incentivize validators to include the bundle in the block. Unlike priority fees, tips are paid only when the bundle successfully executes.

How tips work

The tip is a SOL transfer instruction included as the last instruction in the last transaction of a bundle. It sends lamports to one of eight Jito tip distribution accounts. The Jito Block Engine uses tip amounts to rank competing bundles — higher tips are more likely to be included.

Tip distribution

Tips collected by Jito validators are distributed to stakers, including JitoSOL holders. This creates additional yield on top of standard staking rewards.

FAQ

How do I know the right tip amount? Monitor recent tip levels via the Jito Block Engine API or tip trackers. Tips are competitive — underpaying means your bundle may not be included.

Can I send a bundle without a tip? No. The Jito Block Engine requires a tip. Bundles without tips are rejected.

Are tips refunded if the bundle fails? Bundles that fail are not executed at all (atomic execution), so the tip transfer never happens and no SOL is spent.
